Cities, agencies and businesses across Orange County put OCCC crews on real projects. The work gets done, and a young person gets paid and trained doing it.
OCCC is one of 14 conservation corps certified by the California Conservation Corps, and a member of the California Association of Local Conservation Corps. Certification is renewed every year against the standards in Public Resources Code 14507.5, and it is what makes us eligible for CCC and CalRecycle funding.
A crew of five to ten corpsmembers works alongside a professional supervisor. They restore habitat, reduce fire fuel, clean beaches and shorelines, and maintain flood control channels and public land across Orange County.
Grants and sponsorships pay for the training, certifications, and paychecks that make every crew possible. Last year that support paid for 117,077 hours of crew work and restored 210 acres of habitat.
Every corpsmember leaves with certifications, a high school diploma if needed, and real field experience. Last year 73 landed a job after the Corps, 68 of them their first.
